Steve Sidorek
Legislative Affairs Advisor
National Coordination Office for Space-Based PNT
Steve Sidorek is currently the Legislative Affairs Advisor for the National Coordination Office (NCO) for Space-Based PNT, spearheading all legislative outreach efforts to Capitol Hill.
Before joining the NCO in August 2008, Steve was a Legislative Assistant for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY), Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee. During his stint in the Congresswoman's office, he wrote legislation, speeches, and high-level correspondence to minimize negative effects of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) on cross-border trade and tourism; the efforts delayed the implementation of WHTI until June 2009. Additionally, Steve collaborated with the Air Force and House Armed Services Committee staff on legislation concerning construction projects and operations at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Moreover, he proposed legislation requiring the Army to open sole-source ground radio contracts to competition.
Steve's congressional experience also includes his service as a Legislative Correspondent for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and as a Staff Assistant for Congressman Dan Boren (D-OK). His correspondence portfolio while working for Senator Reid included government affairs and reform, homeland security, labor, trade, and veterans’ affairs matters. Steve also assisted the Senator with the formulation of legislative proposals to improve Department of Veterans Affairs compensation provided to retired, disabled veterans and shepherded the bill through the legislative process by coordinating with Senate Veterans Affairs Committee staff.
Steve first gained interest in public affairs while interning for then-Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) in her Syracuse, New York District Office. It was there that he acquired first-hand experience of the various issues affecting the lives of the constituents throughout Central New York and the role the federal government plays in governing individuals.
A native of Bloomington, Indiana, Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Syracuse University in 2004 and his Master of Arts degree in Applied Politics from American University in 2006. While at American University, he was awarded the Bryce Harlow Foundation Scholarship, which recognizes qualified and motivated graduate students pursuing a career in public affairs, government relations, or lobbying.
